Wise Dan honored as 2013 Horse of the Year

Hallandale Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Champion thoroughbred Wise Dan was again voted the Eclipse Award as 2013 Horse of the Year. The Eclipse Awards were announced Saturday evening at Gulfstream Park Racetrack. The night began with Wise Dan, owned by Morton Fink and trained by Charles LoPresti, winning his second straight award as champion Male Turf Horse and later gaining his second consecutive honor as champion Older Male. Wise Dan, who won his second straight Breeders' Cup Mile on Nov. 2, received his second Horse of the Year honor over Breeders' Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man and Travers champ Will Take Charge who was voted champion 3-year-old male. The 7-year-old gelding finished first in the balloting with 208 votes, followed by Mucho Macho Man with 21 votes and Will Take Charge with 15 votes. Wise Dan is the first to repeat as Horse of the Year since Curlin in 2007-08. The Eclipse Awards are voted on by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, National Turf Writers and Broadcasters and Daily Racing Form.
