Will Take Charge headlines Donn Handicap

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Hallandale Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Eclipse Award winner Will Take Charge heads a field of 11 for Sunday's $500,000 Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park.

The 1 1/8-mile race will be broadcast as part of "The Jockey Club Tour on Fox" by Fox Sports.

Will Take Charge, trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, will make his 4- year-old racing debut Sunday in the Donn after spending the first weeks of the year at Oaklawn Park. Luis Saez will again be the saddle and the pair has drawn post 2.

"He's been doing surprisingly well," assistant trainer John Sica said. "I drove him here myself, so I would know. He's easy-going and nothing really fazes him; he's got such a good mind. He jogged a little and galloped a mile and three-eighths. It seemed like he got over the track well, and the exercise rider said he felt good."

Owned by Willis Horton, Will Take Charge suffered a nose loss to Mucho Macho Man in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 2. He won the Pennsylvania Derby and Travers heading into the Breeders' Cup and was second in the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga. He closed out his 3-year-old season with a win over Game On Dude in the Clark Handicap.

Will Take Charge posted five wins in 11 starts last year for nearly $3 million.

Leaving from post 3 will be Revolutionary who was third in last year's Kentucky Derby. The 4-year-old, trained by Todd Pletcher for WinStar Farm, will be ridden by Javier Castellano.

"He got a race under his belt over the track, so we're optimistic about him performing well. It's a tough race, for sure," Pletcher noted.

Revolutionary won his 2014 opening race at Gulfstream on Jan 11. The colt won last year's Withers Stakes and Louisiana Derby before the Run for the Roses. A fifth in the Belmont Stakes was his final performance of 2013.

Pletcher's colt has won four of nine starts for $1,047,600.

Here is the field in post position order for the Donn: Uncaptured, Miguel Mena; Will Take Charge, Luis Saez; Revolutionary, Javier Castellano; Neck 'n Neck, Julien Leparoux; River Seven, Joe Rocco Jr.; Romansh, John Velazquez; Viramundo, Paco Lopez; Lea, Joel Rosario; Bourbon Courage, Jose Lezcano; Macho Bull, Magomet Kappushev and Joshua's Comprise, Francisco Maysonett.

Post-time for the Donn will be approximately 6:01 p.m. (ET).
