Havana recovering from injury, Bay Shore possible

Hallandale Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Havana, second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, continues to recover from a hoof injury and could return to racing at Aqueduct.

Trainer Todd Pletcher has the 3-year-old colt at the Palm Meadows Training Center.

"His foot looks good. We've got him back under tack, and we hope to maybe be back on the work tab next week," Pletcher said. "It healed up well; we just didn't want to rush things and make sure we get it right. As far as quarter cracks go, it was a pretty minor one."

Pletcher indicated that the gray colt may return in the seven-furlong Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct on April 5.

Havana was scratched from the Swale Stakes on March 1 with a quarter crack in his right front foot. The 3-year-old was scheduled to make his 2014 debut in the seven-furlong stakes.

Owned by the partnership of Susan Magnier, Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor, Havana was second to New Year's Day in last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile as the 5-2 favorite.

The 3-year-old, winner of the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, has earned $708,000.
