HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
GULFSTREAM
FINANCIAL MODELING: Overcame a tardy beginning to finish a
distant third--beaten only a neck for second--in his seven-furlong debut.
Should appreciate more distance.
HALLOWED: Continues to make progress with racing
experience and added distance. Low-profile connections help the price.
LITTLE
MISS BROWN: Big Brown
filly has taken to grass nicely with a pair of third-place finishes. Front-runner
forgets to stop.
MAKE
IT SNAPPY: Well-bred
daughter of Medaglia d’Oro--Flashing was clearly in need of a start to get her
feet wet. Will make a big jump forward at second asking.
PADILLA:
Continues to put
forth big efforts since returning to grass and adding blinkers. Hard to figure why
he keeps getting overlooked at the windows.
ROMANS
PARADISE: Took a nice
step forward with a third-place finish in his first start for a tag off the
November layoff. Won’t remain in the maiden ranks much longer.
BEST
BET: LITTLE MICHELLE: Very
hard to dismiss what she’s accomplished in her first three trips to the post.
Keep close tabs on this daughter of Tiz Wonderful.
LONGSHOT:
WE’RE ALL SET: Recent
fifth on grass at 18-1 is better than it looks, and he can also run on dirt.
Very dangerous at a price.
NO.
CALIFORNIA
ARGYLE
CUT: Stakes-place son
of Harlington can do the job over either surface here. Could be quite
interesting on a turnback in distance, too.
DUKE
OF DOOM: With two
starts under his belt following the layoff, it’s time to head to the windows.
FRISCO
FOG: Returned from
the shelf running with a sharp second-place finish at 9-1. Catch her if you
can.
GROWIN
UP: Keeps on
improving with racing experience. Anxiously awaiting his first attempt versus
winners following smart maiden tally.
JIMMY’S
DATE: Debut was
decent going six furlongs, but he took a step backward when stretched to a
mile. Cuts back and scores.
POSSE
POWER: Quietly
running some decent races without getting his picture taken. Back-classy
gelding can win one on memory alone at the current level.
SIMPLY
SHARP: Has useful
speed and is very competitive at the current level. Go in with both fists.
TRIBAL
MONEY: Off since late
last summer, but has run well at Golden Gate in the past. Can fire fresh off
the bench.
BEST
BET: BRILLIANT MELODY: Took
some time off following a pair of wins, but appears to be training smartly
since. Does it again.
