Injury puts Cairo Prince out of Kentucky Derby

Hallandale Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Cairo Prince, winner of the Holy Bull Stakes, has an injury that will prevent him from competing in the 140th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 3.

Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin informed that Cairo Prince injured his left front ankle and will be evaluated at an equine hospital in Kentucky.

Owned by Godolphin Stable, Cairo Prince won the Holy Bull by 5 3/4 lengths in his first start of the year. The colt finished fourth as the 6-5 favorite in the Florida Derby. He has won three of five starts for $562,000.

Cairo Prince had been 19th on the Kentucky Derby points list.
