Medal Count headed to Belmont Stakes

Elmont, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Trainer Dale Romans announced Tuesday that stakes winning 3-year-old Medal Count will start the 146th Belmont Stakes on June 7.

Owned by Spendthrift Farm, Medal Count was eighth in the Kentucky Derby to California Chrome. The colt won the Transylvania Stakes on the main track after being taken off the grass at Keeneland. Earlier this year he finished second behind Dance With Fate in the Blue Grass Stakes and fifth in the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Medal Count has three wins in eight career starts for $261,600

Expected to join Medal Count in the 1 1/2-mile "Test of the Champion" versus leading 3-year-old California Chrome are Tonalist, Commissioner, Wicked Strong, Commanding Curve, Ride On Curlin, Kid Cruz, Matuszak, Samraat and Matterhorn. Other possible starters are Social Inclusion and Candy Boy.
