Game On Dude works at Santa Anita for Gold Cup

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Two-time Gold Cup winner Game On Dude put in a workout Wednesday morning at Santa Anita in preparation for his defense of the race on June 28. Game On Dude, partly owned by Joe Torre and trained by Bob Baffert, worked six furlongs at Santa Anita in 1:13 1/5 with jockey Martin Garcia riding. Hall of Fame rider Mike Smith will again be aboard the 7-year-old gelding for the 1 1/4-mile Gold Cup formerly held at Hollywood Park. Game On Dude finished second to Imperative in his most recent start on April 19 in the Charles Town Classic. The gelding won his second consecutive and third overall Santa Anita Handicap on March 8. He began 2014 with a fifth- place finish in the San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita on Feb. 8. The San Antonio was his first race of the year following consecutive defeats in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Classic and Clark Handicap. The gelding has earned more than $6.4 million with 16 wins in 32 starts.
