Second group of Pillars of the Turf honorees announced

Saratoga Springs, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The National Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame announced Monday that Edward R. Bradley and Edward P. Taylor are the second class of inductees for the Pillars of the Turf category.

Pillars of the Turf recognizes people who have played important parts in the sport of thoroughbred racing.

Bradley and Taylor join previously announced 2014 Hall of Fame inductees jockey Alex Solis, trainer Gary Jones and champion racehorses Ashado and Curlin along with Historical Committee honorees jockey Lloyd Hughes and racehorse Clifford. The induction ceremony will take place in Saratoga Springs on Friday, Aug. 8.

Colonel E. R. Bradley owned four winners of the Kentucky Derby: Behave Yourself, Bubbling Over, Burgoo King and Brokers Tip. He also owned three Preakness Stakes champs: Kalitan, Burgoo King and Bimelech as well as Belmont Stakes winners Blue Larkspur and Bimelech.

From 1926 to 1934 Bradley owned Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans and for a time Hialeah Park in Miami. The Colonel E. R. Bradley Handicap is named in his honor at Fair Grounds. He passed away in 1946 at the age of 84.

E. P. Taylor is a name synonymous with thoroughbred racing in Canada. The turf course at Woodbine is named for him as is the E. P. Taylor Stakes on turf for fillies and mares.

The Ottawa-native, who owned Windfields Farm, bred and owned Northern Dancer who won the 1964 Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and went on to become one of the greatest sires in thoroughbred racing history.

Taylor twice was honored with Eclipse Awards as Outstanding Breeder in 1977 and 1983. He died in 1989 at the age of 88.
