By: SPORTS NETWORK

Los Alamitos, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Eclipse Award winner Shared Belief heads the field of seven 3-year-olds for Saturday's $500,000 Los Alamitos Derby at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Shared Belief, trained by co-owner Jerry Hollendorfer, will start from post 5 in the 1 1/8-mile stakes with Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith riding.

Undefeated in four career starts, Shared Belief will be making just his second start of the year after missing time with an injury. The gelding won an allowance race at Golden Gate Fields on May 26, his first start in more than five months.

Shared Belief was voted 2013 champion 3-year-old after winning all three races last year, including the Hollywood Prevue and CashCall Futurity. He comes into Saturday's start with earnings of $472,200.

Taking on Shared Belief for a second time is Candy Boy, trained by John Sadler for C R K Stable. The colt has drawn the outside post with Joe Talamo in the saddle.

Candy Boy, in his fifth career start, finished second to Shared Belief in the CashCall Futurity to close 2013. The colt came back as a 3-year-old to win the Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita on Feb. 8 and was third to California Chrome in the Santa Anita Derby. He finished 13th in the Kentucky Derby.

In eight lifetime starts, Candy Boy has two wins and two seconds for $425,600.

Here is the field in post position order for the Los Alamitos Derby: Eddie's First, Elvis Trujillo; Tonito M, Victor Espinoza; Can the Man, Martin Garcia; Friendswith K Mill, Tyler Baze; Shared Belief, Mike Smith; Top Fortitude, Kayla Stra and Candy Boy, Joe Talamo.

Post time will be approximately 8:30 p.m. ET.
