Kid Cruz one to beat in Dwyer Stakes

Elmont, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Local winner Kid Cruz headlines a field of six 3-year-olds in Saturday's $200,000 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park. Trained by Linda Rice, Kid Cruz comes into the 1 1/16-mile Dwyer off a victory on Belmont Stakes Day in the Easy Goer Stakes. The colt, owned by Vina Del Mar Thoroughbreds and Black Swan Stable, has drawn the inside post with Irad Ortiz Jr. back to ride. Ortiz was aboard when Kid Cruz overcame a bad start in winning the Easy Goer by 3 1/4 lengths. The colt posted wins this year in the Private Terms and Federico Tesio Stakes in Maryland before an eighth-place finish in the Preakness. Kid Cruz has earned $248,375 with four wins in seven career starts. Here is the field for the Dwyer in post position order: Kid Cruz, Irad Ortiz Jr.; Spot, Jose Lezcano; Ulanbator, Julien Leparoux; Captain Serious, Jose Ortiz; Tiz Dark, John Velazquez and Gaining Ground, Corey Lanerie. The Dwyer has an approximate post time Saturday of 2:56 p.m. ET.
