Boisterous gives Bowling Green another try

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Elmont, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Boisterous, third last year, will make another start Saturday in the $200,000 Bowling Green Handicap over 1 1/2 miles at Belmont Park.

Conducted last year as the featured event for the track's opening card of its fall meeting, the Bowling Green has attracted seven turf runners for this year's summer running.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Boisterous will start from post 3 with Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez back in the saddle. Velazquez last rode the 7-year-old in last year's Bowling Green when third to Hyper.

Boisterous, owned by Gary Barber, has not won a stakes race since last July's Man o' War Stakes at Belmont Park. Previously trained by Hall of Fame member Shug McGaughey, the horse was eighth in this year's Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap with a third at Churchill Downs in the Turf Classic and seventh on Belmont Stakes Day in the Manhattan Handicap.

Boisterous has won 12 of 32 career starts for $1,444,874.

Here is the field from the rail out for the Bowling Green: Hangover Kid, Jose Lezcano; Horvat Clan, Junior Alvarado; Boisterous, John Velazquez; Chamois, Cornelio Velazquez; Grandeur, Joel Rosario; Sky Blazer, Rajiv Maragh and Reflecting, Irad Ortiz Jr.

Post time for the Bowling Green will be approximately 5:28 p.m. ET.
