Will Take Charge continues training for Whitney

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Saratoga Springs, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Eclipse Award winner Will Take Charge had a five-furlong workout Monday morning over Saratoga's Oklahoma training track.

With the surface listed as fast, the 4-year-old colt went the five furlongs in 1:01.02 for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

"I took him out to breeze a little bit; he looked good," Lukas jokingly said. "Actually, he was three-legged lame. He didn't eat up last night. He's got a temperature. And I think he's got the hives, but I think I'm going to run him."

Listed as probable for the Whitney Handicap at Saratoga on Aug. 2, Will Take Charge, owned by Willis Horton and Three Chimneys Farm, was second behind longshot Moonshine Mullin in his most recent start in the Stephen Foster Handicap on June 14 at Churchill Downs.

Earlier this year, he won the Oaklawn Handicap on April 12 and was sixth at Churchill in the Alysheba Stakes on May 2. The colt opened the season with a pair of second-place finishes in both the Donn and Santa Anita Handicaps.
