Palace Malice puts in Whitney workout

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Saratoga Springs, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Top ranked thoroughbred Palace Malice hit the track Sunday morning at Saratoga for a workout leading to the $1.5 million Whitney Handicap on August 2.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for Dogwood Stable, Palace Malice, with Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez aboard, went five furlongs in 1:00.48 and galloped out six furlongs in 1:13 3/5 on Saratoga's main track.

"I thought he worked great and we were very pleased with what he did," said Pletcher. "He seems to be maintaining form and doing very well."

Palace Malice is undefeated in 2014 with four wins in as many starts. The colt began the year by winning the Gulfstream Park Handicap on March 8 followed by a solid victory at Fair Grounds in the New Orleans Handicap three weeks later. He then claimed the Westchester Handicap at a mile by almost 10 lengths at Belmont on May 11. The colt decisively won the Met Mile on June 7 one year after taking the Belmont Stakes.

He has won seven of 16 career starts for $2,631,135.
