Real Solution back to defend Arlington Million title

Arlington Heights, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Real Solution, last year's winner via disqualification, will face six rivals Saturday as he defends his title in Arlington Park's Arlington Million XXXII.

The 1 1/4-mile turf event is part of the Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" program. A victory reserves a spot for the victor in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 1.

Owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Real Solution won for the first time last year in the Million after finishing second to The Apache going under the wire. The order was reversed because The Apache interfered with Real Solution down the stretch.

Real Solution, trained by Chad Brown, is the 5-2 second pick and will start the Million from post six in the seven-horse field with Javier Castellano riding. Last year the horse had Alan Garcia in the saddle.

The five-year-old has earnings of $1,358,175 with five wins in 13 career starts. He's coming off a win in the Manhattan on the Belmont Stakes card.

The 7-5 favorite is Breeders' Cup Turf winner Magician, trained by Aidan O'Brien for Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs. John Magnier. Magician has drawn post three with the trainer's son, Joseph, again riding.

The four-year-old colt is coming off consecutive runner-up finishes in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in May and the Prince of Wales's Stakes in June. Magician has won five of 12 lifetime starts for $2,357,992.

Here is the field for the Million in post position order: Hardest Core, Eriluis Vaz, 20-1; Smoking Sun, Stephane Pasquier, 9-2; Magician, Joseph O'Brien, 7-5; Finnegans Wake, Ryan Moore, 12-1; Up With the Birds, Eurico Rosa da Silva, 6-1; Real Solution, Javier Castellano, 5-2 and Side Glance, Jamie Spencer, 8-1.
