Longshot upsets Bobby's Kitten in Hall of Fame Stakes

Saratoga Springs, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Longshot Wallyanna, ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., caught even-money favorite Bobby's Kitten late in the stretch to win Friday's $200,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes for 3- year-olds on the turf.

Friday marked the induction ceremony for the class of 2014 into the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame. This year's inductees were jockeys Lloyd Hughes and Alex Solis; owners/breeders E.R. Bradley and E.P. Taylor; trainer Gary Jones and champion thoroughbreds Ashado, Clifford and Curlin.

Penn Mile winner Bobby's Kitten set an uncontested pace in the 1 1/16-mile grass event. Wallyanna, trained by Michael Pino, was racing in the back of the six-horse field.

Bobby's Kitten had a three-length lead at the top of the stretch, but was unable to hold off the late running Wallyanna. The 23-1 longshot passed the favorite yards before the wire and registered a length victory over Bobby's Kitten.

Give No Quarter finished third followed by Long On Value, Bashart and So Lonesome. Matterhorn was scratched.

The time for the Hall of Fame was 1:40.66 on a firm turf course.

Owned by Tim O'donohue, Wallyanna notched his fourth win in six career starts and added $120,000 to his bankroll. The colt more than doubled his earnings to $222,748.

After making just one start in 2013, Wallyanna broke his maiden to begin his 2014 season at Gulfstream Park on March 16. The colt came back to win his next two starts, including the James W. Murphy Stakes on the Preakness card at Pimlico.

Wallyanna was fourth at Indiana Grand Race Course on July 2 in the Centaur Stakes.

Wallyanna returned $49.20, $11.60 and $4.20. Bobby's Kitten paid $3.30 and $2.40, and Give No Quarter paid $2.80 to show.
