'All systems go' for California Chrome after Saturday's public workout

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Los Alamitos, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Saturday's public workout for Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner California Chrome delighted all those connected to the 3-year-old colt as he prepares for the Pennsylvania Derby.

"All systems go for Chrome and Victor after going six furlongs in 1:10.37 and galloping out seven-eighths in 1:24 - Quarter-mile fractions were :24 3/5 and :47 4/5. The next Breeders' Cup Classic winners!!," as posted on the colt's Facebook page.

Trained by Art Sherman, California Chrome and rider Victor Espinoza went to the track between the third and fourth races at Los Alamitos with fans cheering as the colt worked. Commentators noted that the cheering probably had the colt work a little faster than usual during a normal early morning training session.

California Chrome, owned by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin, will make one start before the 1 1/4-mile Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 1. The PA Derby will be coming up on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Parx Racing.
