Work All Week defeats Secret Circle in Breeders' Cup Sprint

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Work All Week, ridden by Florent Geroux, held off defending winner Secret Circle to capture Saturday's $1.5 million Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita.

Trained by Roger Brueggemann, Work All Week broke from an outside post in the 14-horse field for the six-furlong sprint. Based in Chicago, 19-1 longshot Work All Week was right on the hip of pacesetter Fast Anna until taking the lead entering the stretch.

Work All Week, owned by Midwest Thoroughbreds, had the lead at the furlong pole but had to hold off last year's winner Secret Circle, the 9-2 second pick. The 5-year-old chestnut gelding was able to record a half-length win over Secret Circle to give his connections their first Breeders' Cup victory.

Finishing third was Private Zone and fourth was Bourbon Courage.

The time for the Sprint on a fast track was 1:08.28.

Work All Week is now perfect in eight career starts on a dirt track. The Sprint win was worth $800,000 to bring his lifetime earnings to more than $1.3 million. Overall the gelding has won 12 of 15 starts.

Work All Week paid $40.20, $18.40 and $11.00. Secret Circle returned $6.40 and $4.60, and Private Zone paid $5.80 to show.
