Horses to Watch

Belmont

BELMONT BLUES: Had some traffic trouble on the turn but made up some good ground to finish a solid second

to a runaway winner. Fits with $20k claimers.

BLUE BOAT: Hails from the ever dangerous Bobby Frankel barn and is now 2 for 2 in this country with a win

around two turns on the turf and a win around one turn on the dirt. Could be another force for Frankel as the year moves on.

CHARGE: Showed good early speed in an off the turf stake race that was moved to the main track. Although

he tired in the drive this race should set him up for his next start back on the lawn.

CLASSY E. T.: Chased the early pace but could not make an impact late and tired to fourth. Has now had a

few races under his belt and should be ready to roll in his next start.

CURB: Was run down by the odds-on choice last out losing by five and half lengths late. However, this speedster

showed that he can stay a mile as evidenced by the margin back to the third place horse.

EARN A BUCK: Nobody could pick up the leaders in his last start and he did make a decent move on the turn only to

tire in the lane. Try back with similar on a dry surface.

FRENCH SMILE: Might have been up against it in a five horse paceless race and was a well beaten fourth. A return

to the turf may be an option.

GEOMETRY: Returned from a long layoff and showed his gameness to hold on by a head. Given that race under

his belt a return to the turf is the next stop.

IN HIGH GEAR: Always had high hopes for this one but they never panned out. However, his most recent romp in

the slop that came after some solid morning drills says this one is ready to put it all together.

MAKARUMBA: Finally put it altogether last out finishing a good second to the odds-on favorite. Was extremely green

last year and it cost him but seems to be back on track. Can move up and score versus maiden special weights be forewarned.

MONTHIR: Checked in a miserable fifth last out beaten over 13 lengths. His breeding says turf is a viable option being out

of the mare CARESS. Look for a stop on the green next out.

NEWFOUNDLAND: High priced yearling has not lived up to his price tag but did show guts in scoring a neck victory last

out. Is getting better with each and every start and must be followed right back.

ROSE ESTHER: Exploded to score by four lengths after taking well back of the leaders. Is a good candidate to repeat with

$35-$45k claimers on the turf.

SARATOGA’S MARK: Was in tight in the stretch and had to take up before checking in third. Fits with $27.5k claimers.

SELL THE RALLIES: Made a huge move to get into contention before settling for second after encountering some traffic

trouble. Filly has a bright future beyond five furlongs.

SENORITA ANITA: Well bred filly is a half sister to BALTO STAR and turf is another option for the Pletcher barn.

STORM SAINT: Blasted from the gate to gain the lead in a quick half mile in 45:2 before tiring in the drive to finish fifth.

A drop into maiden claimers gets this one to the winner’s circle.

WHATS WHAT: Made a move to reach contention before tiring and finishing seventh. This New York bred must be given

a second look especially at a price.

ZAWZOOTH: Needed her most recent race in her return from a lengthy layoff and her fifth place finish should be dismissed.

Should be ready for a better effort next time out.

4PSPECIAL: DEPUTY DIRECTOR: Well bred colt showed good early zip in his first start and held fairly well for

third behind the odds-on choice. Look for a stretchout and a score next out.

LONGSHOT: KEEN HOPE: Showed a lot of promise last year before going to the shelf. Has not returned to last year’s

form but is racing herself into shape and can pop at a big price.

Hollywood

FIRST CLASS CODE: Rushed up inside only to get caught in a speed duel in comeback race on 6/11. Can win in

second race back off the layoff.

GOOD DAY SIR: Bobbled at the start and then hustled up into a three-way duel for the lead before fading.

Owns dangerous speed.

HADL: Broke badly and basically lost all chance at the start of a short turf sprint on 6/13. Just needs a clean break.

HOC YOUR SILVER: Got shuffled back in traffic but still held third in well-bet try on 6/13. Can graduate vs. cheapies.

LIBERTY LADY: Set a pressured pace and did well to hold on for fourth at 19-1 odds in a race dominated by late-runners.

Fits well back vs. similar.

LUCKY IN LOVE: Got hooked in a three-way, five-length-gap speed duel and still held on well for third while well-ahead of

her early pace challengers. Tab.

METAPHYSICS: Got caught in a speed duel with the 4-5 favorite and still managed to finish a close fourth while seven

lengths clear of his early challenger. Ready to graduate.

READY AIM FIRE: Broke slowly and could do no better than third in a race won off by a wire-to-wire favorite.

Rates another chance.

ROYAL PLACE: Outran 23-1 odds to finish a close-up fourth on the grass despite racing four-wide into the stretch behind

a pair of front-runners who ran 1-2. Try again.

SILVER HAWK LADY: Missed a spot on the board after getting blocked and checked sharply in traffic. Better luck next time.

SIX NUMBERS: Got shuffled back in traffic and finished sixth, but still lost by only three lengths and would have been closer

with a better trip. Live overlay.

SPELLBINDER: Well-bet first starter ran well in debut considering he had a rough trip and was blocked in traffic for part of the

five-furlong race. Won’t be a maiden for long.

SUDDEN FAME: Stumbled badly and lost all chance at the start on 6/13. Can rebound with a better start.

THATSWHATSHESAID: Showed good speed but got hooked in a duel for the lead after a relatively fast first quarter-mile

going 7 1/2 furlongs. Worth another shot.

4P SPECIAL: SKY JACK: Got hooked and cooked in a four-length-gap duel for the lead in return from a nine-month

layoff. Too early to give up.

LONGSHOT: FLYING HEART: Lost ground four wide on the first turn and got caught in traffic on the second turn in difficult

one mile turf assignment in return from an 11-month layoff. Stick with her.
