Calculator versus seven in Sham Stakes

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Calculator, second in his last two starts, heads a field of eight 3-year-olds for Saturday's $100,000 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita.

Trained by Peter Miller, Calculator and jockey Elvis Trujillo will start from post 7. The gray colt, owned by Richard Pell, will be making his 2015 debut in the mile stakes.

Still seeking his first career victory, Calculator posted a pair of seconds the last two times racing. He got second in the Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 3 behind Eclipse Award finalist American Pharoah and 24 days later was second again to American Pharoah in the FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita.

"The horse ran super. I'm really happy with the way he ran. The winner got an easy lead with a slow pace," Miller said after the FrontRunner.

Calculator finished third in his career debut at Del Mar on July 19 and fourth three weeks later on Del Mar's synthetic main track. The colt has earned $133,500.

Also entered from Miller's stable are Rock Shandy and St. Joe Bay starting from posts 5 and 1, respectively. Victor Espinoza and Martin Pedroza have the mounts.

Rock Shandy was third and St. Joe Bay fourth in the mile turf Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar on Nov. 30.

Here is the complete field for the Sham Stakes in post position order: St. Joe Bay, Martin Pedroza; Pioneerof the West, Corey Nakatani; Rockinatten, Rafael Bejarano; Unblunted, Joe Talamo; Rock Shandy, Victor Espinoza; Papacoolpapacool, Fernando Perez; Calculator, Elvis Trujillo and Hero Ten All, Tyler Baze.

Post time for the Sham will be approximately 6 p.m. ET.
