'Chrome' and Bayern lead Dubai World Cup nominations

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (SportsNetwork.com) - The 20th running of the $10 million Dubai World Cup has attracted 296 nominations led by the first seven horses under the wire in last year's Breeders' Cup Classic.

Classic winner Bayern is joined on the nomination list by 2014 Horse of the Year California Chrome who was third in the Classic, Classic runner-up and 2014 UAE Derby winner Toast of New York, Eclipse Award winner and fourth in the Classic Shared Belief and Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist who was fifth behind Bayern. Also nominated are Candy Boy, Cigar Street.

Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, who conditions Bayern, has won the Dubai World Cup previously with Silver Charm in 1998 and Captain Steve in 2001.

Breeders' Cup Turf champ and two-time Eclipse Award winner Main Sequence has also been nominated to the 1 1/4-mile race. Main Sequence is trained by Graham Motion who saddled Animal Kingdom to win the race two years ago.

Godolphin Racing's African Story is expected to defend his 2014 World Cup title. His trainer Saeed Bin Suroor has won the race six times.

The world's richest thoroughbred race will be conducted on Saturday, March 28.
