HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
PARX
JIMMY SOUL: Lived up to favored billing to score on the
front end on jump up to starter allowance level in first start for trainer H.
Hollahan following claim/freshening; right back for another.
PISTORIA: Has shown some needed life in recent starts, and
gained from eighth and through traffic to manage second in her latest; solid
veteran mare has been in the exacta in 11 of 27 tries.
PLYMOUTH SQUARE: Tried to move very wide and gain after
racing last of six behind a slow early tempo and had to ultimately settle for
fourth in his latest; proven veteran gets another shot.
TO COMMERCIAL: Shot clear on the front end and gave out when
it counted to finish third in her latest; speed always makes her a player in
similar company.
VAULTED HEART: Has been overmatched in each of his last two
following blowout score three starts back; chased dominant winner in latest,
and can get back on track with slight class drop.
4*SPECIAL: WARREN’S CLIFF S.: Chased and weakened when it
counted to finish fifth in his latest, but didn’t miss second money by much
given margin of dominant winner; another chance for solid S. Lake barn.
LONGSHOT: RUGBY ROAD: Gained from very far back with wide
run for fourth in his return from two-month break; note, F. Waters barn showed
confidence in protecting him at $25k-tag level, so stay tuned.
TURFWAY PARK
DANDY DEAL: Gave a belated run for fourth in her latest, but
recent form seems headed in the right direction; needs pace/race luck to set up
late run, but should offer value and fits in the mix at current level.
GHOST ON THE RUN: Couldn’t overcome slow break and didn’t
gain when fourth on stretch to one mile in her latest; prior third-place finish
when in from GP makes her worth following another time.
GOGO JOJO: Settled for a distant third after she lunged at
the break when up in class and in search of repeat score most recently; another
try for K. McGowan trainee (16% wins last year).
KATY LIED: Couldn’t close the deal when in range in the lane
and settled for third of five in her latest, but 8YO mare was making her first
start since late-December; set now.
MUSICAL SCORE: Rebounded from eighth-place finish when
ambitiously placed at stakes level two starts back and finished second, beaten
only a head, back with maidens in latest; diploma awaits.
NAPA VALLEY (BRZ): Didn’t have much of a chance off latest
trip (“bumped start, eight path quarter-pole”) and raced in fairly even order
to be seventh; can do more.
SPOONFULOFSUGAR: Raced in traffic and could only mount even
finish thereafter when third in her latest trying to gain into slow early
tempo; primed for breakout now.
SWAYLON BRAYLON: Has regained his better form over the
course of his last couple of starts, most recently putting in a game run for
second; next time.
WHOLE LOTTA RUN: Chased wide and weakened to finish a
distant fourth behind dominant winner when in from GG for his local debut; improves
for L. Smith barn (26% wins last year).
4*SPECIAL: MARTHA ROSE: Chased from the outside and weakened
to finish third behind blowout winner when making just her second lifetime
start off good winning debut; lightly raced 4YO with upside.
LONGSHOT: LORD UNBRIDLED: Put in a wide bid and flattened
out a bit, but did manage fourth of 11 in his latest; can still offer value in
upcoming third start of current form cycle.
