Clubhouse Ride retired after impressive career

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Clubhouse Ride, two-time winner of the Californian Stakes, has been retired from racing.

Owned by Six-S Racing Stable and Nikolas Petralia, Clubhouse Ride completed his career with earnings of $1,341,132 from 43 starts with five wins, nine seconds and 10 thirds. The 7-year-old chestnut horse won the 1 1/8-mile Californian at Hollywood Park in 2013 and at Santa Anita in 2014.

"I loved the horse," trainer Craig Lewis said. "He was a great horse to be around, a great horse to train. He made my job easy because he just loved what he was doing. He was all race horse."

Clubhouse Ride had two starts this year, including a last place finish behind Shared Belief in the San Antonio Invitational in his final race.

His 2013 season proved to be his most productive as he earned $581,374. Along with winning the Californian he posted consecutive second-place finishes in the San Antonio, Santa Anita Handicap and Charles Town Classic.

In 2014, Clubhouse Ride was third in both the San Carlos Stakes and Santana Mile, fourth in the Charles Town Classic and second in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita before finishing 10th in the Pacific Classic with an injury.

"He hurt his back in the Pacific Classic and had some soft tissue damage near his pelvis. He's such a tough horse though that we didn't know anything was wrong until we did a nuclear scan," Lewis explained.
