HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
LAUREL
AIX EN PROVENCE: Seven year old mare
got away in good order from her rail post, took over after a quarter mile,
opened up into the lane and never looked back scoring by more than four
lengths, follow right back.
C V OUTLAW: Chased and pressed
the odds-on early leader, was still there after a half mile but couldn’t go
with the leaders and tired to finish fourth at 16-1; tab this runner right back
with NW3L $15k claimers.
CANAL STREET: Seven year old
gelding got away in fourth early on, made a good move to take over the lead at
the ¾ mark but couldn’t finish it off checking in third at 8-1; must respect.
NICELY PLAYED: Didn’t show much of
anything in her first two starts, dropped again to a $10.5k maiden claimers,
chased the pace over a muddy/sealed surface, dropped back to fourth and then
came again to finish third at 41-1; stay close.
SET TO GO: Five year old
gelding got away in second early on, dropped back a bit but then ran on well
through the lane to get up for the win; follow right back similar.
BEST BET: MIDDLE JEWEL: Four year old filly is in
sharp form with two wins in January, moved up into a $11k claimers, made a good
move to get into second but had to settle for the place spot, sharp now.
LONGSHOT: MIMIPAOPONCHIS: Was making just her
second start since November and only her second start over the Laurel Park race
course, was away in fifth early on last out, closed some ground through the
lane to finish a distant third at 30-1; should be a price right back with
similar.
FAIR GROUNDS
BLUE GRASS MARY: Four year old
Louisiana bred by Bluessgrass Cat made her career debut last out going six
furlongs, took money going off at 2-1, chased the pace from the inside but had
to settle for third, tab off that effort.
CHUCKS TURN: Made one start in
2014 and that was a win over the synthetic surface at Arlington Park back in
May, returned against NW3L $15k claimers last out in an off the turf race, chased
the second place runner throughout but had to settle for a distant second,
could be all set if he comes back quickly.
MR. ERIN: Took a drop and
moved back to the dirt last out, chased a sharp pace from third early on, moved
into second but couldn’t get to the wire to wire winner, stay close.
TRIDENT HERO: Four year old colt
was making his first start over the turf last out, chased a sharp 44:4 half
mile in a turf sprint last out began to tire into the lane and checked in fifth
at 23-1; could improve off that effort.
WILD STUDENT: Took the blinkers
off for his last start, showed much improved speed from third last out over a
sloppy/sealed surface but had to check in a distant third at 14-1, follow with
conditioned $5k claimers.
BEST BET: CATHEDRA: Three year old filly was sold
for $25k as a yearling back in 2013, made her debut last out over the turf and
was sent off at 17-1; was away slowly racing in ninth but put in a good run to
finish fourth only three necks off the winner, follow.
LONGSHOT: TRUKARMA: Was sent off at 32-1 last out
against NW3L $5k claimers, chased the leader from the start, took over past the
¾ mark but tired in the lane to finish fourth, give this one another look with
similar especially at a price.
