HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
LAUREL
STREET POET: Three year old
gelding was a wire to wire winner back on New Year’s Day against $16k maiden
claimers, faced off against winners, $25k claimers, set the pace from the start
and into the lane but tired to finish third at 25-1; tab at a price.
CLASSIC SPEED: Eight year old
gelding came out running for the lead, pressed the pace early on, took over
after a ¼ mile and held that lead into the lane but just missed by a neck late,
knows how to win and could be tough right back in current form, off the claim.
TOBY WHO: Closed well to
finish second last out when against NW3L $5k claimers, finishing second to the
runaway winning favorite, has a win and a second in her last two and fits with
similar.
DOUBLE WHAMMY: Was an easy winner
against NW2L $15k claimers last out as the even money favorite, was claimed out
of that race and moved up to face off against NW1X allowance company, came out
running for the lead, set the pace over a muddy/sealed strip from the start and
into the lane but tired late to finish fourth at 8-1; respect right back.
EMELINA: Five year old mare
was off since January 29th, got away in fourth early on from the outside,
moved into second into the lane and was game down to the wire just missing by a
head, follow right back.
BEST BET: ELTHAM: Six year old gelding had been
off since December at Tampa Bay, got away in 5th early on, moved
into third at the top of the lane but had to settle for fourth late, respect
this runner next out.
LONGSHOT: ALLY WHO: Five year old gelding as
making his 7th start last out but had been within 16 lengths of the
winner until last out when he closed to finish third at 48-1; follow this
runner right back with $12.5k maiden claimers right back at a price.
TAMPA
BONETOWN WILD: Five year old
gelding was making his second start off a November layoff when he was taking a
drop in class into a NW2X optional $32k claimer in a turf sprint, got away in
fourth behind sharp splits and ran on through the lane to finish a close-up
third at 20-1, solid.
KATHY’S KITTEN: Eight year old
gelding came out running, set the pace through a solid half in 47:2, was passed
after a half mile, came back again but just missed by a neck at 9-1; stay close
on either surface.
MOONSHINE BLUES: Broke from post 9
last out, raced three wide early on racing in sixth, started to move around the
final turn and finished well for second at 6-1; sitting on a win, tab.
QUEEN YAMILE: Seven year old mare
came out running for the lead setting some solid splits, was still there into
the lane but got nailed late just missing by a neck at 13-1; respect this
runner right back with time restricted claimers.
SEE I A: Nine year old
gelding was off since August heading into his last start, loves this track with
11 wins, came out battling for the lead but couldn’t finish it off checking in
third late as the slight favorite, all set now.
BEST BET: ENDER’S UNIVERSE: Hard hitting eight
year old gelding has been sharp in his last three races heading into his last
race, got away in fifth early on and closed well to finish second to the even
money favorite in a fast time, stay close right back.
LONGSHOT: PISTON BROKE: Was sent off at 25-1 in
his debut going seven furlongs against $16k claimers, was outrun early on
racing in 8th and passed some rivals in the lane to finish fifth,
should move forward off that effort and the price will be right.
