Frammento to give Zito chance at third Derby win

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Hall of Fame trainer Nick Zito has been stuck on two Kentucky Derby victories for 21 years and didn't know if he'd get a chance for a third this year.

Zito entered Mossarosa's Frammento Wednesday in the Kentucky Derby, but found the colt was relegated to being an also eligible when a total of 22 3-year- olds were entered for Saturday.

Thursday afternoon the veteran trainer got word that Stanford had been scratched, allowing Frammento to start the 1 1/4-mile Run for the Roses from the far outside post.

"I got the call from the racing office this afternoon," Zito said. "We are all excited. We made it. Everybody is happy. He has been training great. I know we will have to break from the 20, but that is a lot better than Post Zero!"

Corey Nakatani has the mount for the first time aboard the colt who is 50-1 in the morning line. Frammento was fourth to Carpe Diem in the Blue Grass Stakes on April 4 after a third in the Fountain of Youth and sixth in the Holy Bull Stakes.

"It has been frustrating, because he is a true distance horse," said Zito,

Frammento earned 20 points on the "Road to the Kentucky Derby" points system.

The colt galloped 1 1/2 miles Thursday morning under exercise rider Juan Bernardini.
