Illness forces Beholder from Vanity Stakes

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder has once again been felled by illness and will not start in Saturday's Vanity Stakes at Santa Anita.

Owned by Spendthrift Farm, the mare spiked a fever Thursday morning, an apparent repeat of the illness that kept her out of last year's Breeders' Cup Distaff.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Beholder was scheduled to start the 1 1/8-mile Vanity from post 3 in the five-horse field of fillies and mares for her second race of the year.
