Beholder gets back to work after taking ill

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder, trained by Hall of Famer Richard Mandella, had a workout Thursday as she recovers from illness.

Owned by Spendthrift Farm, Beholder worked five furlongs at Santa Anita in 1:01 with David Neusch in the saddle. This was her first workout since missing the Vanity Sakes two weeks ago.

"It was a very nice work," Mandella said. "She wanted to do more. We're still looking at the Adoration Stakes for her on June 13."

Beholder spiked a fever the Thursday before the Vanity. She had a similar illness that kept her out of last year's Breeders' Cup Distaff. She was scratched from the Vanity Stakes after the post position draw.
