HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
PIMLICO
ANTIETAM CREEK: Four year old filly
was making just her second start since December of last year, came out running
early on and set the pace for more than a half mile but couldn’t go with the
leaders tiring to finish fourth, should be set in her third start back and a
drop will also help her cause.
BLIMEY: Hard hitting eight
year old gelding added blinkers for his last start, got away in fifth early on,
made a good move to get into second into the lane but tired some late to finish
close-up fourth against $5k claimers; fits with basement foes right back.
DANIEL DID IT: Came out running
for the lead last out, battled head to head for the lead through fractions of
23, 45:4 but couldn’t finish it off checking in a close-up third at 3-1; must
respect right back with starter allowance runners.
SPARKLING JEWEL: Returned from a
July 2014 layoff last out as a first time gelding, got away in seventh early on
behind sharp splits, started to move into the lane and finished well for third,
probably needed that race and should be tough right back.
WILDLY LEAKS: Had been off form
for his last five starts, was outrun early on racing in seventh but did put in
a solid late run to finish second to the wire to wire winner at 51-1; fits with
restricted $10k claimers, follow at a price.
BEST BET: BLAME ME: Got away in fifth last out
when dropping into a NW2L $25k claimer over the turf, made a big move to take
over into the lane but came up short to the favorite checking in second, must
respect with similar.
LONGSHOT: MOUNTAIN MAN: Didn’t do much running in
his debut when he hesitated at the start, dropped in against $8k maiden
claimers and ran on for even sixth at 74-1; can move forward again and will
offer long odds at the windows.
MONMOUTH
J’S BUCK SHOT BANG: Shipped in from
Tampa for his last start, came out running from post 2, battled for the lead
throughout, was still there into the lane and dug in gamely to finish a
close-up third at 15-1; follow.
UNTAMED: Was off since
December 2014, got away in third, made an early move to take over that lead
past the ¾ mark but tired some late to finish fifth at 22-1; all set now.
LORJIM: Was off since
September 2014, came out running from post 7, chased a very sharp pace from the
start and into the lane but tired to finish sixth and last at 7-1; all of his
wins have come over this track and should be respect right back.
BRAD AND THE GANG: Three year old
chased the pace last out from third but just couldn’t go with the leaders into
the lane and checked in fifth, a drop into a maiden claimer and a move to the
turf could be in order, tab.
LASSO: Didn’t get away to
a good start last out, rushed up in between horses and battled through some
sharp splits before tiring to finish 10th and last, this horse is a
need the lead type and could bounce back if he makes the lead next out at a
better price.
BEST BET: P J’S ENIGMA: Broke from the rail post
last out going 5 and ½ furlongs over the turf, didn’t get away in good order,
checked moving into the backstretch and was forced to come with a very wide run
before checking in 8th, will offer value right back.
LONGSHOT: PERFECT EXTENSION: Three year old filly
was making her second start last out while stretching out and moving to the
turf, pressed the leader from the start and into the lane before tiring some to
finish fifth at 22-1; should be all set now and could offer a square price.
