Two 'Super" Saturdays to be offered at Belmont Park 2015 fall meet

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Elmont, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Belmont Park will be conducting consecutive "Super" Saturdays during its 38-day fall championship meet which will run from Friday, Sept. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 1.

Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" races will be offered on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 3 giving the winning horses automatic berths in the World Thoroughbred Championships to be held at Keeneland on Oct. 30-31.

"With the Breeders' Cup scheduled at the end of October, it afforded us the opportunity to present two blockbuster days of racing instead of one," said Martin Panza, Senior Vice President of Racing Operations for the New York Racing Association. "We anticipate both to be "must-see" days at Belmont Park this fall."

On Sept. 26 the $600,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic in the Turf division and the $400,000 Vosburgh in the Sprint division will take place at the 1 1/2-mile track. The following Saturday, Oct. 3, the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup (Classic division) will be run along with the $500,000 Flower Bowl (Filly & Mare Turf), $500,000 Champagne (Juvenile) and $400,000 Frizette (Juvenile Fillies).

Aqueduct will then take over New York racing beginning Wednesday, Nov. 4 through the end of December. The centerpiece is the $500,000 Cigar Mile on Saturday, Nov. 28. Private Zone won last year's Cigar Mile over 2013 Breeders' Cup Sprint winner and 2014 runner-up Secret Circle.
