HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
TAMPA BAY
DIABLOSANGELEYES: Raced with the pace and drew off for clear-cut
score as much the best in her latest; 8YO mare a proven winner, so stay on board.
FIREBROOK: Broke running from post position 10 in career debut and
stayed strong to report home a punctual winning favorite; son of Montbrook
stays on winning path.
GIGISKI: Shows signs of life at times and latest fourth-place finish seems
she’s at least headed in right direction following some prior poor running
lines; at a price, please.
MIKE’S FOLLY: Showed improved early speed before tiring in latest – an
excellent sign in second start of current form cycle that should point to a
winning effort next time.
OUT FOR SIN: Chased and weakened in latest, but figures to benefit from
his first experience over the course and is likely better than effort
suggests; next time.
PRETTY GALORE: Had two-race win streak snapped when moved
to turf for latest, but went well to finish a narrowly beaten fourth; gets
back on winning track.
UNFACED: Sped clear in latest and held on to finish a narrowly beaten
second when hanging up a near lifetime best "fig"; stays sharp.
WINGED PHILLY: Tried main track and went fair for fourth in latest,
but was trying both sprint and winners for first time in career; plenty
of potential.
4STARSPECIAL: INFINITE JUSTICE: Now has a pair of races worth of
experience here since return from April ’04 layoff, and figures primed
for breakout performance; turf or dirt.
LONGSHOT: ECCENTRIC TYPE: Now has a pair of sprints under his
saddle since return from break, and even showed good early speed
in latest; 7YO gelding figures all set now.
GOLDEN GATE
FAXENE: If you can toss the last two efforts over off tracks, this filly
has been involved in almost every start. A threat on turf or dirt.
GLOBAL TRADE: Has gotten better in each of his starts, including a
second-place finish by a head last out Jan. 20. Graduation day is near.
GOOD FELLA (ARG): Lightly raced seven-year-old has faced better in
his last two starts. Is better suited to a starter allowance.
HOLLY PARK: Went a little too fast for her own good last time,
opening up a five-length lead through :21.79 and :45 fractions. Benefits
from a rate job.
ICICLE RIDGE: Is either a slop freak or a one-run speedster based on
her disappointing eighth after stalking the pace over a fast track. Follow
off the claim.
KOOL SUGGESTION: Makes a positive trainer change off the Jeff
Mullins claim. Returns to his winning ways shortly.
PAPIER MACHE: Always gives her all on the racetrack, even if it doesn’t
equal wins. Solid mare is a must use in the exotics.
REALITY MINE: Was really flying in his recent second-place finish cutting
out :21.58 and :43.93 early splits. They won’t catch him next time.
RECHONIC: Think one mile may be a bit too far for this gelding after his
last two races. Speedster gets back on track with a cut back in distance.
TAFFYVILLE: Really turned things around after his eighth-place finish in his
debut, winning by 10 lengths on the drop down. Try versus winners.
WINDY NIGHT: Finished second at 29-1 making her second start off a long
layoff. Can do some good things at $4k.
4STARSPECIAL: ISSUES STORM: Is clearly a better animal on the turf if her
Dec. 15 maiden win and solid second-place finish Jan. 23 is any indication. Take note.
LONGSHOT: BEST TRIBUTE: Continues to move forward in her last
three efforts at prices, including a third-place finish at 31-1 last out Jan. 23.
It’s coming soon.
