Opening Derby Future Wager sets record

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - A record total of more than $600,000

 was wagered in Pool 1 of the 2005 Kentucky Derby Future Wager. This is

the first time that the $600,000 mark has been surpassed since the Future

 Wager began in 1999.

Of the 234 betting interests available, the Field finished as the 2-1 favorite.

Eclipse Award winner Declan's Moon closed at 9-1 and was the top individual

 three-year-old in the pool.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile runner-up Afleet Alex closed at 15-1. Undefeated

Rockport Harbor was second behind Declan's Moon at 13-1 in the betting.

In the wagering for the Kentucky Oaks for fillies, $69,928 was bet. Champion

 two-year-old Sweet Catomine and the Field both finished at 9-2 when the

 windows closed.

When betting concluded Sunday night Davona Dale winner Sis City was the

 third choice at 9-1.

The next Future Wager Pool for both the Kentucky Derby and Oaks will be

 conducted from March 10-13, while the third and final Pool will be April 7-10.

The 2005 Run for the Roses is set for Saturday, May 7 and the Kentucky

 Oaks will be run on Friday, May 6.
