Horses to Watch

ELLIS PARK

BISHOPS TREE: Made huge move on the turn after breaking tardily in debut. Earns diploma shortly.

CATCHY WORD: Haltered by sharp barn out of popular score. Can repeat against tougher.

CITY DESK: Set lively pace before tiring going 6 1/2. Might appreciate cutting back to 3/4 mile.

DAY LONG TRIP: Claimed by good barn out of runnerup effort. Handles rise in class sporting new silks.

EARTH SHAKING: Alternated on the lead in lively two turn fractions before tiring. Can handle right group.

EUFALA: Claimed by crafty barn out of non-threatening outing. Receives wake up call.

GAMING: Pressed pace in debut for barn that almost always improves it’s second time starters. Won’t be a maiden for long.

LENNOXWOOD: Didn’t live up to his backing in debut for top juvenile barn. Likely to improve in second start.

MY FRIEND DON: Claimed by underrated barn out of runnerup outing. Should return quick dividends in new shedrow.

REAL LIFE: Claimed by barn that often does well with recent acquisitions. Could pay to follow.

SUPERPOWER: Dueled in day’s fastest fractions before tiring in the lane. Dangerous if able to shake loose.

TEXAS BEST: Disappointed after setting swift splits and tiring. Makes amends next time out.

THOMPSON GEE: Was away slowly breaking from tough rail post in debut. Better start can only help the cause. MY

TOUCHDOWN KY: Chased quickest splits of the day while a bit wide before tiring. Eligible to improve off that effort.

VIBS: Chased card’s swiftest splits before tiring in midstretch. Can better rating in next start.

WHOLETTHEBULLOUT: Disappointed last out after running into a buzzsaw and was clearly second best. Should graduate next out.

4STARSPECIAL: STRIKING POSES: Set fastest fractions of the day and held on for minor award. Takes it all the way.

LONGSHOT: AZER: Just out for the exercise for barn that does well with second time starters. Could surprise next out.

THISTLEDOWN

BANGZOOM BIRDIE: Tried to stretch her speed a route of ground in latest, only to fade in the stretch as part

of a failed, odds-on entry; another shot for winning Johnson barn.

BLACK FOREST: Could only manage a mild late rally for third in latest, but back-classy sort remains a

reliable commodity in gimmicks for strong Johnson barn.

BLUE REALITY: Chased and settled for clear second when behind only a clear-throughout winner most r

ecently; two good starts in a row, figures to stay sharp.

CALIFORNIA VALLEY: Had to settle for second at odds-on when breaking from extreme outside post in latest;

filly brings dangerous early speed to lower-end claiming sprints.

CALL LEADER: Has speed in his pedigree, and the addition of blinkers and Lasix brought that out in recent maiden

score; improving, he deserves a chance versus winners.

DOEY WILD: Has been finding stride too late in sprints, but has been showing subtle improvement from race to race;

pedigree says more distance in her wheelhouse.

MINISTER O’ WAR: Stepped up with placing when dropped to current level ($3,5K) two back, but fell flat as a non-factor

as the favorite in latest; "bounce, then bounce back" theory.

OUR STEFFI: Underachiever failed as the favorite for the second straight time since dropping to $3,5K MCL level; speed

must still be respected, however, so don’t ignore.

TEJANO GAL: Tried $10K-tag types in first start following $3,5K-claim by trainer McEachern, and did manage to finish fifth

of 10 in fair try; gives barn options now.

WITNESS THE MUSIC: Added blinkers for latest and continued learning-on-the-job trend, finishing third after chasing the pace

throughout; stamp diploma past due now.

4STARSPECIAL: COLEBROOK FIGHTER: Turned in solid second-best effort June 28 when simply unable to reel in

always-clear winner; reliable mare is fresh and dangerous now.

LONGSHOT: DUNNE RIGHT: Chased and couldn’t keep up, but in race won on the front end by a speedy

Clay Time at odds-on; gelding gets his chance to be leading man before long.
