HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
DEL MAR
DEVOTED TO YOU: Finished a distant third in return from a long layoff. Prepped
and ready to win either here or at Fairplex.
EASY MILLION: Drew an outside post and then got hung out four wide on
the first turn. Can improve with a better post off the claim by Hess.
ELEMENT K.: Bobbled badly in an awkward break and lost her best chance at
the start. Worth one more try.
ELUSIVE DIVA: Was fractious in the gate prior to the start of her loss in return
from a four-month layoff. Stick with her.
GO COYOTE GO: Tried to make a big middle move but lost too much ground
when four wide on the turn. Can win off the claim by Carava.
GOLD CREEK DANCER: Broke slowly and had to hustle up toward the pace
in order to press a loose-on-the-lead wire-to-wire winner. Try again.
JANZIG MOON: Broke too slowly and didn’t have enough speed in career debut
to be competitive in a short sprint. Try again in stretchout and possible switch to turf.
LAST CONQUEST: Rushed up inside into a speed duel and got KO’d after
contesting a :21.4 and :44.3 pace. Dangerous speed with a more alert start.
MIGHTY BEAU: Foreign invader reared up at the start and lost all chance at
the break in a short turf sprint. Worth another shot.
MISS LEMON DROP: Battled for the lead and outlasted her challengers to
hold on for fourth, beaten only a length. Front end turf threat.
R. H PERFECT STORM: Three-way battle for the lead in a :22 first quarter
mile took its toll on her. Can make amends as a potential overlay.
SEATTLE BUDDY: Needed a race off an eight-month layoff. Should be
tougher in second race back.
SPEED TRAP: Got caught in a three-way battle for the lead in a race that set
up for a pair of deep closers. Can shake loose here or at Fairplex.
SUNNY DISPOSITION: Was forced out wide into the first turn and lost too
much ground early when seeking second win in a row. Can rebound.
TRULY A JUDGE: Got hooked by two different challenges up front and never
got a breather on the pace before tiring out of the money. Too early to give up on him.
4STARSPECIAL: WITHIN TIME: Got bumped, shut-off, and interfered with at
the start of her well-bet career debut. Just needs a chance to run, and could be an
overlay based on first out fiasco.
LONGSHOT: FIVE NICKELS: Blew the break and had to rush up when trying
to show early speed from an outside post on the turf. Don’t overlook despite
the last-place finish.
CALDER
B L’S LUCKY APPEAL: Made it two good starts in a row after opening her
account with two dismal eighth-place finishes. Won’t get 29-1 again, but is
worth playing off her runner-up effort at $20k.
CARVI BLAZE: Showed added speed in her second start when stretched out
in distance. Clearly headed the right way off the third-place finish.
HARDTOBEATBOB: Has run some interesting races at long odds, including a
recent sixth at 91-1. Keep a very close eye on this maiden.
PIRATING: Finished 12th, beaten 18 lengths in his debut, but that didn’t
stop owner Sandy Goldfarb and trainer Henry Collazo from claiming him for
$40k in his second career start, which he finished second. Interesting to see
what they do next with him.
SING DORTHY D: Tampa invader held her own in local bow, finishing fourth.
Has every right to move forward.
SUCCESSFUL: Daughter of Successful Appeal has flashed speed and tired in each
of her two starts, but stayed on a little bit better second time around. Can speed
pop ‘em at a price.
SUCHATOUCH: Speedster was in a bit too deep in the Regal Gal S. last time
out. Can take a group of $25k optional claimers gate-to-wire.
UNCIVIL: It wasn’t too long ago that this guy was facing graded stakes company.
Most recently was second in a $25k optional tagger; not asking much from this one
these days.
VERY BECOMING: Well-bred daughter of Belong to Me out of a Seeking the Gold
mare should move forward off her sixth-place debut. More distance please.
4STARSPECIAL: PERFECT NOTE: Came running for third after getting steadied
at the start in her career debut Aug. 22. Sharp outfit adds to her appeal.
LONGSHOT: I IMAGINE: Clipped heels on the first turn two starts back and was
pinched back at the start in her most recent effort. Very intriguing at a big price.
