Bellamy Road favored in Travers Stakes
By: SPORTS NETWORK
Saratoga Springs, NY (Sports Network) - Bellamy Road, the defeated Kentucky
Derby favorite, has been installed as the 2-1 morning line choice for Saturday's $1
million Travers Stakes at Saratoga. Seven three-year-olds have been entered in the
1 1/4 mile race.
Bellamy Road will be making his first start since finishing seventh in the Run for the
Roses back in May. Owned by George Steinbrenner, Bellamy Road will start from the
inside post with regular rider Javier Castellano. The colt's decisive win in April's
Wood Memorial put him in the Kentucky Derby, where he went off as the 5-2 favorite.
Bellamy Road is trained by Nick Zito.
Haskell Invitational winner Roman Ruler is the second choice at 5-2. The colt will have
the services of Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey and will break from post four.
Roman Ruler is owned by Fog City Stable and trained by Bob Baffert. The three-year-old
captured the Dwyer Stakes prior to winning the Haskell.
The third choice in the morning line at 3-1 is Flower Alley, who comes into the Travers
off a win in the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga. Flower Alley will start from the outside post
with John Velazquez in the saddle. Owned by Eugene Melnyk and trained by Todd Pletcher,
Flower Alley won the Lane's End Stakes earlier this year and was second in the Arkansas Derby
and Dwyer.
Completing the field for the Travers in post position order are Andromeda's Hero, Chekhov,
Don't Get Mad and Reverberate.
