HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

PENN NATIONAL

IRISH TEXAN: Chased a quick pace from the start last out but could not get to the leader and tired a bit in the drive to finish third; respect.

KISS MY JUDGE: Chased the pace from the start in third place and stayed that way to the wire as they 1-2-3 around the racetrack. Was 30-1 last out and will offer value with $3.5k claimers.

LADY T: Didn’t run that badly most recently when finishing second at 19-1 closing good ground in the lane; price play with NW4L $4k claimers.

LADY VERONICA: Chased the pace from the start, was prominent throughout and stayed on well to finish third; could be right there with $2.5k claimers.

MANA TORPEDOES: Battled through a quick opening quarter mile, took over that lead but could not sustain that run in the stretch and tired to sixth. Can surprise with $3.5k claimers.

RENTZ: Made a big move to the lead after sitting in sixth place early but just got nailed late to miss by a neck; should score over NW2L claimers.

4STARSPECIAL: FUMPH AROUND: Trailed the field from the start of the race but closed strongly in the lane to finish second in a race that went in a solid time; will be tough right back.

LONGSHOT: YACHT BROKER: Was well back early but settled in and closed strongly to finish third at 31-1 and is ready to score with NW1X, at a decent price.

BAY MEADOWS

BEEZER: Sat a perfect trip behind dueling leaders, but wasn’t good enough to capitalize. Normally pretty solid though, so give another shot if the price is right.

BRANDY BLAZE: Always shows good speed and handles both surfaces. Stayed on for fourth in recent 1 3/8 miles test, but will be better off at a shorter distance.

DECIDEDLY RICH: Closed strongly into a slow pace to dead-heat for second in her first attempt beyond six furlongs. Figures tough right back.

DIXIE’S ANGEL: Finally crossed the line first after placing second in her first four trips to post. Wouldn’t be surprised if she made it two in a row.

FACE DOWN DAVE: Reeled off quick fractions of :21 4/5 and :44 3/5 and was able to hang on for second by a neck. Cheap claimer has plenty of heart.

FROM ABOVE: Came alive to finish third in his turf debut in career start number eight. Try again versus maidens on the green stuff.

FUSAICHI HEART: Trailed the field around the track in her first start since February. Moves forward second start off the vacation for Jeff Bonde.

HOLLYWOOD BOUND: Looked like she was bound for the winner’s circle Oct. 9, but just got tagged by a head. Speedy and dangerous.

LUVOLE’: Third-place finish sprinting on the turf at 29-1 was no fluke Oct. 9. Consider this your warning; step up and make the play.

MUTUAL HARMONY: Showed late interest to finish third in her career debut for shrewd connections. Cal-bred is one to watch.

NOW I’M A BELIEVER: Ran a good second versus maiden claimers on the dirt, but has done little since trying turf in his last two. Can be dangerous at a price.

SAUXSOE: Finished second in his last two attempts on the turf at 10-1; going 7 ½ furlongs Sept. 21 and at 1 1/16 miles Oct. 10. Can’t knock at the moment.

4STARSPECIAL: SIR TOASTY: Is one of the more consistent animals on the grounds, finishing no worse than fourth out of nine starts this season. Playable on turf and dirt.

LONGSHOT: CLASSIC FOOL: You don’t have to go back that far to find consecutive fourth-place finishes at 41-1 and 74-1. Six-year-old can’t be counted out.
