Borrego, Saint Liam headline Classic field

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Elmont, NY (Sports Network) - Borrego and Saint Liam are among the pre-entered horses for this year's Breeders' Cup Classic, scheduled for October 29 at Belmont Park.

A total of 117 horses were pre-entered for the eight-race Breeders' Cup card, which is highlighted by the $4 million Classic.

Borrego will be among the favorites for the 1 1/4-mile Classic after winning his last two starts -- the Pacific Classic and the Jockey Club Gold Cup. The Gold Cup was run at Belmont on October 1 at the same distance.

Saint Liam, meanwhile, also won a big race at Belmont with a triumph at the Woodward Stakes over 1 1/8 miles on September 10.

Also pre-entered for the Classic is Rock Hard Ten, who captured the Goodwood Handicap on October 1 at Santa Anita after an injury-filled summer. It was the four-year-old's first start since a victory at the Santa Anita Handicap in March.

Travers Stakes winner Flower Alley is also pre-entered for the Classic, as is six-year-old veteran Perfect Drift.

Better Talk Now will try to repeat as Turf champion, while Ashado will be in the hunt for a second straight Distaff win. Ouija Board is slated to try for another Filly & Mare Turf title, and Singletary could be in position to win a second consecutive Mile race.

A new Sprint winner will emerge from a strong field that includes Florida Derby winner High Fly, Haskell champion Roman Ruler and the undefeated Lost in the Fog.

Champagne Stakes winner First Samurai will be among the favorites for the Juvenile, while Adieu and Folklore will headline the field for the Juvenile Fillies.

The post positions will be revealed next Wednesday.
