HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

HAWTHORNE

BELIEVABLE NEMO: Raced close up to the pace, made a middle move into contention but tired in the drive to finish fourth; is a good fit with NW2L $5k claimers.

CAMPO: Closed nicely to make up ground to finish second after racing in the back of the pack early on and fits nicely with straight three year old claimers.

MR. C NOTE: Closed from well back to finish a good second behind the backclassy favored winner and should move through NW2X allowance condition quickly.

MR. KING PIN: Put in a huge effort to just miss by a neck last out at 43-1 after trailing the field early through moderate splits; solid with $25k claimers.

ROYAL CIRCLE: Finished a close-up fourth behind a 59-1 shot last out while being sent off at 85-1; did show that he can make up ground in the lane and should be followed with maiden claimers at a price.

SENIOR CHIEF: Had a long lead into the stretch and almost lost it late but did hold on for the nose score. Has sharp early speed which makes him one to beat each time, tab.

4STARSPECIAL: NIKOBE: Took a tough beat last out just missing by a nose squandering a three length lead at the head of the stretch. Wires $8k claimers with a similar effort.

LONGSHOT: JAGUAR GAMBLER: Broke well from the far outside nine post, took pressure every step of the way through some quick splits and only tired late to finish a good fifth at 29-1. Will be tough with NW2L if he is able to clear off early on.

CHURCHILL DOWNS

AILEAN’S ECHO: Was never that far back racing in fifth behind a very quick pace, made a wide move to get into contention and stayed on well for third at 32-1; will be tough with NW2L claimers.

BEST MOM: Was up close to a slow pace last out and never really got going checking in sixth, needs a better pace up front to show her best.

BROKEN SMILE: Two year old filly was contesting the pace from the rail post and battled all the way to the wire finishing third just missing by two necks at 27-1. Tab with NW2L allowance foes.

CASINO EVIL: Closed good ground to finish second behind a runaway winner and this two year old is only getting better follow with allowance types.

MAGO: Extremely well bred three year old is all the way down the maiden claiming level and scored with $15k claimers. Tab this one with restricted winners.

MORLANA: Was all out to get up for the score but did get there by a nose and improving three year old from the Asmussen barn may have a future on the lawn.

PHONE JOAN: Took pressure on the lead last out and wilted in the drive to finish fifth. A stretchout to two turns may lead to a gate to wire score.

SPRUCE HERO: Finished a good third last out after racing wide most of the way and breaking from a tough post, tab with NW3X allowance foes on the turf.

STELLAR VALENTINE: Broke running from the outside post, made the lead through some solid splits, held a clear lead and hung in well for third. Is ready to graduate with $50k maiden claimers.

4STARSPECIAL: ARCH ASSAULT: Battled head to head for the lead, put his rival away and drew away to score by almost five lengths against NW2L claimers. Hails from solid barn and can move up and score with better.

LONGSHOT: OUTRAGEOUSLYFUNNY: Was outsprinted early on from the 11 post and then raced wide thereafter to get into contention before running on well for third at 47-1, tab with allowance foes at a price.
