Trainer John Campo, Sr. dies

Ozone Park, NY (Sports Network) - Former thoroughbred trainer John Campo, Sr. has died after several years of declining health. Campo passed away on Monday, November 14 at the age of 67.
Campo is best known as the trainer of 1981 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Pleasant Colony. The three-year-old failed in his attempt for the Triple Crown when he finished third to Summing in the Belmont Stakes.
Pleasant Colony was voted the Eclipse Award as the Champion three-year-old of 1981. Campo also trained a pair of award winners in 1973. Protagonist was the Champion two-year-old colt and Talking Picture was Champion two-year-old filly.
The mass and burial will take place on Friday, November 18.
