Todd Pletcher sets earnings record

Ozone Park, NY (Sports Network) - Leading trainer Todd Pletcher set a new single-season record for earnings Friday afternoon when his Spin Factor won the second race at Aqueduct.

The previous record of $19,143,289 was set in 2003 by Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel. Pletcher began the week needing a little more than $300,000 to establish a new mark.

On Thursday, Pletcher sent out Indian Vale to win the $338,700 Falls City Handicap. He also won the 10th race at Churchill Downs on Wednesday along with the fifth at Aqueduct.

Last week jockey John Velazquez set a new earnings record for riders in a year.
