RAY TAULBOT, the former managing editor of American Turf Monthly, is recognized as one of the leading pioneers
of modern Thoroughbred handicapping. Pace handicapping has been used by professional handicappers for decades
because pace ratings tell them something that speed figures and final times can't - which horses will fade,
and which can carry on to win. Ray Taulbot's Pace Calculator makes figuring pace ratings easy because it
accurately calculates the combined pace, time and speed of any race.
A native of Texas who was born and raised on the famed X.I.T. Ranch, Taulbot used his tenure at ATM to
develop and popularize his ground-breaking pace and speed handicapping strategies.
Over three decades of research and writing, Taulbot educated generations of horseplayers on the importance
of analyzing beaten lengths, fractional times, track variants, money management and trainer tactics.
Besides his body of work with the magazine, Taulbot authored several books, including "Positive Factor
Handicapping", Ways and Means of Winning" and Thoroughbred Horse Racing: Playing For Profit."
Ray Taulbot's articles still appear each month in the pages of AMERICAN TURF MONTHLY.
His theories and views are still applicable and many modern handicappers have
used Ray Taulbots theories as a basis of their work today.
