#3 Mascarello was close to a fast pace last time and faded, but the other race this year and the races he ran last year seem like more indicative efforts of his ability, and repeats of any of his better outings make him the horse to beat in this spot at 6-1 odds on the morning line.
Play in exacta box with #2 Converge, who seems to be the best horse in this race if he indeed is ready to go here in return from a nearly six-month layoff. Goes first-time out for trainer Rudy Rodriguez, picks up jockey Javier Castellano, and owns speed figures good enough to beat these.

Things did not work out as planned for this horse on the road to the Kentucky Derby after a promising win last fall in the G2 Remsen at Aqueduct. The key for a positive turnaround for this horse today will be getting back on the grass, which was the originally-intended surface for him when he began his career with two turf wins including a stakes victory and a solid and troubled close-up fourth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. Faces a monster low-odds favorite here against Analyze It, but he’s good enough to knock that competitor down a peg if ready for his best.
