California got a race under his belt off a brief layoff last time, and now
comes back to New York to face state breds in an easier spot with Rosario back
aboard for the mount. Won a one-turn Belmont route by 9 lengths last fall, and
the win from two races ago was a good effort. Just needs a rebound to knock
these off at value 6-1 odds on the morning line.
Play in
exacta box with #4 Chestertown, who is the even-money morning line favorite in
this race with Irad Ortiz aboard for Steve Asmussen. Exits an attempt in the
Louisiana Derby last time in a spot where he had no chance, but finished a
solid second two races ago at Fair Grounds the last time he was entered against
comparable competition. Back in against New York breds for the first time since
the maiden win in December at Aqueduct.

horse returns from a layoff, just like most of the contenders do in this
distance turf races, but while others might be prepping for next time, Brown
regularly excels with these kinds of horses in these kinds of spots off of long
layoffs. Has never run a bad race on four career outings, and has speed figures
that stack up favorably against this field.
