a long distance specialist for trainer Todd Pletcher, who regularly wins these
long distance marathon races in New York. No worse than second in all the last
four races including a stakes win at Belmont two races ago. Lost only to
Tacitus last time in the Grace 2 Suburban. Legit 8-5 favorite.
Play in
exacta box with #5 American Tattoo, who has the best upset chance in this field
at bargain morning-line odds of 8-1. Two races this year so far leave something
to be desired, but those losses were in tough spots in the wrong kinds of races
(one turf race and one too short). Finished third in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon
last fall. Likes to win. Don’t overlook.

#2 Tactician
Lost to a
runaway winner at Churchill last time out, but didn’t miss second by much and
got claimed out of that race by Diodoro, who wins 31% off the claim with a big positive
return on investment. Blinkers come back on, lands in a winnable spot, and is a
closer who gets some speed to set things up for him at 1 1/8 miles today.
