Thebigfundamental goes out for Todd Pletcher, who has had a great season so
far. This horse needed his last race, which was his first outing off of a year
layoff. Got a sprint prep under his blt and now means business today with the
stretchout to a route in the second start off the layoff.
Play in
exacta box with #2 Chief Know It All, who is a very live contender in this
field at 15-1 morning line odds. Lost last time, but needed that race off a five-month
layoff, and it was at Belmont where the routes are around one turn. This is a
two-turn route specialist who rattled off four wins in a row at Saratoga,
Keeneland, Churchill, and Aqueduct. Up in class, but it would be a mistake to
ignore this horse in second off the layoff.
Race 9
#6 Uni
One of the
best mares in training routinely faces males, and of course earned her
career-best victory last fall when winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Multiple
Grade 1 winner at this distance gets a chance at revenge after finishing third
in this race last year behind Got Stormy and Raging Bull, but should turn the
tables because Got Stormy has not trained on this season and Raging Bull will
be beatable if Uni shows the expected second-off-the-layoff improvement today.
