SARATOGA
SPOT PLAYS
Race 1
#7 Skeptical
plus exacta box with #2 Baja Fog
#7 Skeptical popped and
stopped in Churchill career debut last time out for trainer Ken McPeek, who
rarely even tries at all with first time starters. Now comes to Saratoga, drops
in class in versus maiden claimers, and switches to a 5 1/2F dirt race. Horses
need speed to win at this distance on the main track at Saratoga, and most of
this field has no early speed whatsoever, which opens the door for this horse
to go a lot further and a lot faster in the second career start.
Play in exacta box with #2 Baja
Fog, who is the other horse in the race who has already run who has
shown early speed, and also has a lot of upside at this maiden claiming level
for short sprint specialist trainer Wesley Ward. Improved a lot last time when
dropped in for a claiming tag, and has a shot to go all the way, at least for
second, at 6-1 morning line odds versus this weak field.
Race 7
#5 Mira Mission
Has been
knocking on the door at this level in similar races lately, and exits a
third-place finish last time, beaten less than a length with the worst trip
when buried in traffic for much of the stretch run until getting clear with run
but too late. Just needs clear sailing to beat these.
