#8 American Law handled the turf
for second last time out in a similar spot in the first career outing on the grass,
in which he showed pretty much the same aptitude as on the dirt. The one
difference was this horse got bumped around at the start and wasn’t able to show
his better early speed as a result. Now goes second on the turf and second time
back from the 70-day layoff for the potent jockey/trainer combo of leading
rider Luis Saez and trainer Danny Gargan.
Play in exacta box with #4 Abaan, who, like the top choice,
switched to the turf for the first time last time out and finished second. Goes
out for trainer Todd Pletcher and jumps back up in class against maiden special
weights after trying maiden claimers last time. Despite the class hike, this
horse’s speed figures have been better than today’s competition, and last time
out the post position out in the parking lot at post 12 certainly didn’t help.
Better draw today. Dangerous.
Race 7
#4 Don’t Wait Up
First starter
veered in at the break to start last in a 10-horse field last time for Tony
Dutrow, a trainer that doesn’t even try until a horse’s second career start.
Fast enough to quickly move into contention and ran on to just miss by a nose
in second in debut, and now means business. Set to graduate.
