#1 Major Dude
Owns two graded stakes turf wins, the last of which came
in his last turf outing which was in February in the Grade 3 Kitten’s Joy
Stakes at Gulfstream where he won impressively. The connections took a shot at
getting him into the Kentucky Derby last time when he switched to the synthetic
track at Turfway and he didn’t win but actually ran a good race on the wrong
surface to finish second. Now gets back to doing what he does best on the grass
and looms large over this field.

#14 Angel of Empire
Plus exacta box w/ #15 Forte
#14 Angel of Empire is well worth your win wagers at 8-1 odds on
the morning line. He looked like dynamite in back-to-back come-from behind wins
at 1 1/8 miles for trainer Brad Cox in the Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds
and the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn last time. He’s getting better with every
start and looks ready to peak on Derby Day. Will be flying late.
Play in exacta and trifecta boxes with the Japanese pair of #22 Mandarin Hero,
who has the benefit of a North American start under his belt when he finished
second by a nose in the Santa Anita Derby. He’ll be even more dangerous today, and
#17 Derma Sotogake, who scored an eye-popping wire-to-wire win at 1 3/16 miles
in the UAE Derby on the Dubai World Cup undercard. The Japanese have taken the
world by storm the last couple years on international race days all over the
globe, and there’s no reason they can’t hit the board here, as well.
