#2 Gallant Greta waited for racing room
last time when forced much further off the pace than usual as the wire-to-wire
leader established a clear lead in the stretch, then finished fastest to get
within a half a length in second. In good form since switching back to the
grass.
Play in exacta box with #6 Dividend Recap, who returned
from a long layoff last time with a big win for turf ace trainer Clement and
steps up in class here but should improve even further in the second race off
the layoff.
Race 13 Travers Stakes
#1 Magnitude
This year’s
Travers came up with a short five-horse field and Sovereignty is obviously the
horse to beat, but if you are betting this race and hoping for anything better
than 2-5 odds to win you really only have one legitimate chance at an upset in
this race and that’s Magnitude. He was briefly considered the Kentucky Derby
favorite back in February after winning the Risen Star Stakes by nine lengths
at the Fair Grounds with a serious speed figure. An injury took him off the
Triple Crown trail but he has been pointed to the Travers all along since
returning from the sidelines with yet another big speed figure last time when
winning the Iowa Derby.
