For horses
with aspirations of advancing to the Kentucky Oaks, the horse to beat in this
race is Crazy Beautiful, who was second last time out in prep race return from
a 3 ½-month layoff. Now means business in this second start off the layoff, and
looms large over this field based on what she did as a 2yo when second in races
such as the Grade 1 Alcibiades. This race did not come up the toughest this
year, and she has a chance to stand out.

Agenda, who is the last horse to have beaten favored Greatest Honor back when
both horses were maidens at Aqueduct last fall, which happened in a race at
this distance in much the same kind of instance in a race without a lot of
pace. That gives a horse like Known Agenda with tactical speed the jump on the
favorite, and this horse showed good improvement last time out with added blinkers
and can score the upset, at least in the exacta boxes, for the top local
connections trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Irad Ortiz.

Collaborate exploded in second career outing last time when stretched out to
one-mile to earn the maiden win by 12 lengths with a Beyer speed figure higher
than any yet to be earned by Greatest Honour. Another terrific aspect of that
12-length win last time out in terms of what it means for today’s Florida Derby
attempt, is the fact that it was a wire-to-wire win as this horse set solid
fractions and continually widened the lead through the stretch run. This race
will be Collaborate’s two-turn debut, and he should once again find himself on
the lead as the best, and perhaps lone speed in the race.
