SPOT PLAYS
Race 6
#3 Winners Laugh
Ran huge in career debut
wire-to-wire victory with a big speed figure and lays over this field with a
repeat of that effort. Flopped last time, but had a list of excuses when
pitched too high in a stakes race, and then immediately lost all chance when he
blew the break and started last behind the field. Didn’t get Lasix last time,
but drops in class and gets the Lasix back today. Just needs a decent start to
go wire-to-wire.
Race 9
#8 Shamalamadingdong
plus exacta box with #5 No Payne
#8 Shamalamadingdong was
well-bet in career debut for Linda Rice last time, and beat a bunch of horses
to run a solid second behind a runaway winner. That race was off the turf, but
this barn specializes in turf sprints and, while certainly proven to be solid
on the main track, this horse will improve even further on the lawn today. Jose
Ortiz keeps the mount, and this horse looks good from off the pace.
Play in exacta box with #5 No
Payne, who lost her last race in the mud on the main track, but the race before
that was a solid runner-up effort at this distance in her most recent turf race,
which was the best turf sprint effort so far of any horse in this race. Returns
to the turf today, blinkers on, and Rosario sees enough to pick up the mount in
a great sign of positive trainer intent for the Handal barn.
